Pinterest has a growing international userbase (roughly half of its 100 million monthly active users are outside of the U.S.), and now it has a search function to fit global needs.

Pinterest announced Thursday that it has improved its search function, as results are now customized by language and country.

Pinterest engineering manager Rui Jiang elaborated on the search update:

Now that there are all these international Pins to discover, we wanted to make it easy for locals to find the best Pins being saved in their own country. So we’ve made some improvements to how search works wherever people use Pinterest.

Pinterest Search results are now customized by language and country, to help international Pinners find local Pins that are more familiar and relevant to them. So now if someone in Germany searches for cake-baking ideas, they’ll find all the best local Pins about baking, frosting and decorating cakes—and both the Pin descriptions and the sites the Pins link to will be in German.

Pinterest also announced that spell-check and search suggestions will be available for users who search in French, German, Japanese and Portuguese.
