Photographer Tammy Abbott Dies at 54

Photographer Tammy Abbott died Sunday after a 20-year battle with cancer. She was 54.

After working in the music industry, Abbott took up photojournalism and worked at the Glendale News-Press and Burbank Leader.

Former Los Angeles Times photographer Rick Meyer served as Abbott’s mentor. “She had the ability to sum up the who, what, when, where and why in one picture,” Meyer told the Burbank Leader. “That’s essential in a community paper. We would meet every four or five months.
