Ph.D Splits, Michael Hodgson Keeps the Name, Clive Piercy Starts Up A/C

One of our favorite graphic design duos here in Los Angeles, Michael Hodgson and Clive Piercy, are going their separate ways after almost 20 years of working together as Ph.D. Over the years the Brits have made elegant and witty work for everyone from QuikSilver to Chronicle Books to the identities of the finest restaurants around town that tempt our appetites daily (Nook, Bergamot Cafe and Angeli Caffe to name a few). From the announcement that was mailed to clients:

Our success has been a direct result of the great people we have worked with over the years. We want you to know that you have had a significant effect on the character and success of Ph.D. Please be assured that during this transition, we will continue to service existing projects with the same high standards that you have come to expect from us.

Hodgson will keep the name Ph.D and continue working in the Ph.D space in Santa Monica, while Piercy will start the firm A/C, which probably means, if our keen UnBeige hunch is correct, that Piercy’s partnering with his wife, illustrator Ann Field.
