Penske Media Corporation (PMC) has purchased film and TV review site Indiewire. PMC already owns many other entertainment brands, including Variety, HollywoodLife and Deadline.
“Indiewire has a rich history as one of the early innovators in digital media — and I’ve long admired the company and its team’s dedication to informing and breaking the most essential news in independent film,” said PMC chairman and CEO Jay Penske, in a statement.
Indiewire was founded in 1996 by Eugene Hernandez. SnagFilms Inc. has owned the site since 2008.
“We remain committed to covering the best in film and television with voices that are fresh, strong, and unique,” wrote Indiewire editor Dana Harris, in a note to readers. “We are all excited for what the future holds. Thanks for your support, your readership, and for caring about great content as much as we do. Stay tuned; this is going to be a lot of fun.”
