Today Paul Buchheit confirmed to Venturebeat that he’s indeed leaving Facebook in order to become one the new partners at YCombinator, the hot Silicon Valley startup incubator.

Interestingly enough, Buchheit is leaving only days before Facebook unleashes its supposed “Gmail Killer”, the email service first created by Buchheit. Paul joined Facebook as part of the FriendFeed acquisition last August. As part of the acquisition Paul and FriendFeed Co-Founder Bret Taylor joined Facebook. Taylor has since become the CTO of Facebook.

Paul Buchheit has become a relatively public figure in the Silicon Valley startup scene, investing in a number of high profile internet startups.
