Branching out beyond the short video format, Meredith Corp.’s digital channel Parents TV will announce today (May 7) that it is bringing on former Early Show host Rene Syler to host a new long-form show, It Moms.
Produced in-house by Meredith and launched on Comcast’s on demand service late last year, Parents TV draws from Meredith’s Parents, Family Circle and American Baby magazines and features short, original videos on topics ranging from the pregnancy stage to issues relating to school-age and older children.
Starting in June, It Moms will offer Syler’s take on the work-life balance while giving Syler, who left the trailing CBS morning show at the end of 2006 and went on to write Good Enough Mother: The Perfectly Imperfect Guide to Parenting, new life on a video platform.
Meredith foresees adding more such long-form programming as it seeks to collect more viewers. Parents TV gets over 1 million video views per month via Comcast and other sources like YouTube and Hulu, and hopes to grow that number by 10 percent to 20 percent over the next 12 months, a company spokesperson said.
Building on its multiplatform delivery strategy, Meredith also signed a deal with CBC New Media Group’s News Over Wireless to make Parents TV available over mobile devices. The channel will be available to Sprint customers via Sprint TV.
