Oyster, the recently launched eBook subscription platform that compares itself to Netflix in the eBook realm, has updated its iOS app and is now supporting the iPad. Having an iPad app is a big move for the company, as people tend to prefer reading on their iPad to their iPhone.
The iPad app is optimized for the device and provides an eReading experience similar to other eReader apps. It has a landscape mode and you can swipe between the pages with a cross fade transition.
The Version 1.1 update also brings about new features for both the iPhone and the iPad app including an updated home screen. The home screen now features more recommendations based on your recent activity, as well as recently added books. In addition, now every genre has a “Recommended for You” section to the book.
The platform gives readers access to an unlimited amount of eBooks for a $9.95 a month subscription fee. The service has more than 100,000 titles in its library including bestsellers and classics from major publishers. The company continues to expand their library with new partnerships and new titles. They added 2,000 new books in the past two weeks. Once you are a member, you can read as many titles as you like at a time, in the same way that you can watch an unlimited number of films on your Netflix account. (Via GigaOM).
