Facebook Preferred Marketing Developer OpenGraphy started the engine on a new Facebook application for automaker Volkswagen in Belgium, with the social network’s open graph actions providing the fuel.
The developer and the automaker teamed up on My Golf Stories, a competition that allows owners, drivers, and passengers of Volkswagen Golf vehicles to share their best stories and customize their own digital Golf cars to match their actual vehicles. Facebook users who like the Volkswagen Belgium Facebook page can also share cars and stories within the app.
OpenGraphy created three open graph actions to support My Golf Stories: I drive this car, I get in this car, and I lived this story. In addition, Facebook’s like button is replaced by a drive button. OpenGraphy CEO Antoine Gounel said:
People don’t only like, share, or comment on cars. Those classic Facebook actions are not deep enough to illustrate online the connections occurring in the real world between cars and people. Basically, prior to those actions, people first get in a car, they drive it, and they live stories with friends with it.
