Hugh Hefner is slashing the October issue of Playboy’s price tag to 60 cents in an effort to make grown men salivate/tie the issue to the upcoming NBC show “The Playboy Club.” The issue even features Laura Benanti, a star of the show, on the cover. A photo spread of her playing checkers — or something like that — is also found inside.
The tactic appears to have worked so far. Playboy’s Editorial Director, Jimmy Jellinek, told The Chicago Tribune that ad pages were up 70 percent for the issue (which hits newsstands Friday) compared with last year.
“This issue is a love letter to vintage Playboy” said Jellinek. And to guys who might just stock up while the price is right.
