President Obama has not officially declined attendance to this year’s Gridiron dinner, but word has it that — like last year — he’ll be a no-show.
Carl P. Leubsdorf, who is secretary of the Gridiron Club and Foundation, is understanding of POTUS’s probably absence. “While we have received no official word from the WH, we understand that President Obama wants to take his family to Indonesia during hs daughters’ spring break,” Leubsdorf wrote FBDC in an e-mail. “While we’re disappointed, we understand the President’s desire to make this trip and hope he’ll come next year.”
Dinner speakers are scheduled to include Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) for the Democrats and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) for the Republicans.
“There will also be some surprises,” Leubsdorf added.
Politico reported earlier today that Obama was planning to skip the dinner. Read the report here.
