NYT‘s Keller Responds To LAT Editor’s Slam

The NYT‘s Bill Keller is putting on his boxing gloves. Sort of.

In response to the LAT‘s Jim O’ Shea‘s scathing reply to Keller’s comments (confusing, no?) about the “Paper of Record’s” ability to poach anyone, the editor told Nikki Finke:

“What I’ve said about the troubles of competing papers is not an attack, it’s a lament. I think a strong, competitive LAT (and WashPost and WSJ and so on) is good for us, and good for the country. We all thrive on competition, and readers benefit.

It’s not exactly the tabloid fodder we hoped for, but still solid for a Friday morning.
