NY Times to Launch News, Opinion Podcasts

A new audio team will oversee the launches.

The New York Times is banking on podcasts remaining cool for at least another couple years. The paper plans to launch several new podcasts in news and opinion this year and in 2017.

In a memo, Kinsey Wilson and Sam Dolnick—the Times’ editor for innovation and strategy and executive vp, product and technology and associate digital editor, respectively—said podcasts were a natural progression for the Times.

“We expect our audio report to further expand our storytelling arsenal and allow us to connect with our audience in ever more ways, along the lines of our pioneering work in virtual reality and visual journalism,” they explained.

The Times also announced some staffing changes to oversee podcasts. Samantha
