NY Times, CNN, Reuters, The Economist Among Favorites For World Leaders

Top-20-Most-Followed-Media-Twitter-Accounts-207x270According to a study done by the international PR firm, Burson-Marsteller, The New York Times (@NYTimes) is the most popular Twitter handle among world leaders.

The firm’s analysis, which included heads of state, governments and ministers of foreign affairs, found that around 22% of these 647 Twitter accounts followed The NY Times. Among the other more popular news sources found by the study were @Reuters, @CNNbrk, @TheEconomist and @BBCWorld, respectively.

Burson-Marsteller’s team also found that CNN”s Christiane Amanpour and Fareed Zakaria are the most followed personalities by these world leaders, with The New York Times’ Nicholas KristofPaul Krugman and Thomas Friedman behind them.

Putin strikes me as a NY Times kinda guy, given his love of free press and humorous op eds.
