If there’s a future for public radio, Leroy Sievers’ continuing feature “My Cancer” may be the wave of that future.
Sievers is the former executive producer of ABC’s Nightline. Right now he’s doing a continuing series of commentaries on Morning Edition, along with podcasts and blog entries about how his cancer–and his doctors–are killing him.
As consultant Robert Paterson observes: “Is this not an important future for the ideal of public radio that extends beyond mere comment and weak participation to a new state where the most difficult challenges and the most fun in our lives can find expression? Competitively, who but public radio could do this?”
