Nokia Beta Labs provides a free step counter app that works with these phone models: N95, N95 8GB, N82, N93i, 6210, N79, N85, N96. It can be found linked below…
Distance can be reported in either metric or imperial (for we U.S. types) units. However, as their short (2 items) known issues lists notes: Height and weight must be entered in cm and kg regardless of whether Metric Units is chosen in Settings -> General. So, I had to do a bit of conversion before entering my height, weight and stride length.
As you can see, I didn’t test it very much before taking a few screenshots. But, having used it a bit more afterwards, it seems like it is reasonably accurate. In fact, it seems more accurate than the three pedometers I bought and used years ago. I gave up using those because they all seemed so inaccurate.
I’ll give the Nokia Step Counter a try. Its price (free) is definitely right. And, I don’t have to carry anything extra to use it. I am a bit concerned about how it will affect my N96’s battery life though.
