The Orange County Register’s beloved home columnist Nick Harder died this morning after battling diabetes for several years.
From an internal memo by Nick’s editor:
It is with deep sadness that I share with all of you the news that
home-improvement columnist Nick Harder passed away early this morning.
Nick was a good friend, a jovial colleague and an individual who knew no
limit when it came to serving readers, or colleagues who had a question or
As many of you know Nick’s health had been a challenge sporadically for
years. But in recent weeks the accumulation of long-term diabetes, a
triple heart bypass last year, a persistent staph infection and
complications from medicine took their toll.
Nick was admitted to Mission Hospital only yesterday, and died there this
morning at 2:30 a.m.
He is survived by his wife Wendy, the public-relations director at Soka
University, and his son Jonathan.
