Nice Peter Gets Fired From The Digitour

Over the weekend a tweet from The DigiTour let fans know that YouTuber Nice Peter would not be performing at his remaining Digitour dates. They sent "apologies to his fans" and announced that they’d be providing refunds, but no other information was released. Angry fans wondered what had happened. In a video released earlier this week called ‘I got fired from the Digitour’ Nice Peter provided some insight. Nice Peter explains, "I got fired from the Digitour and here’s why…The Digitour started out as something that was about music and it was about YouTube and it was about you and it was about me and it was about Destorm and it was about Dave Days and it was about The Key Of Awesome and it was about a lot of cool things coming together and bridging this gap between YouTube viewers and YouTube content makers and it was something I was very excited about." He explains that "there are a lot of things in the music business that are very corrupt from the inside" and he believes that "YouTube is one of the only places where you can get in front of an audience without money." But he says that in the middle of the Digitour he realized that he "was a part of something that was not about me and it was not about you and it wasn’t about YouTube and it wasn’t about the audience. It was about money. And that became something that really bothered me." He spoke out about it and, as a result, was asked to leave the tour. While Nice Peter doesn’t name names specifically, it seems to have to do with the fact that he had his differences with Digitour sponsor Neuro. One fan writes that "There’s speculation (not facts!) that it had to do with him possibly refusing to whore himself out to Neuro like a lot of the other acts did, but we don’t know for sure." Last month I had the opportunity to ask Nice Peter a few questions about the Digitour via email. I asked how he got involved and he told me, "Last year, I was making videos all day, everyday. The chance to get out and hop on a bus with my friends Destorm, MysteryGuitarMan, and Dave Days was too cool to pass up. I spent most of my music career playing live, it was a nice return to those roots." And it looks like, though Nice Peter has left the Digitoour, he is still planning to return to those roots. In his video he talks about going on tour across the US as well as in Europe. On a different note, when I asked Nice Peter about the Digitour I also took the opportunity to ask him about what advice he’d give to musicians looking to make a name for themselves on YouTube. He told me, "Do another take. Me and my songwriting partner Dante practice extremely hard to make sure our one take performance videos are as good as we can make them. It is not uncommon for us to practice for 2-3 days doing 40-50 takes of one song before we get the take that feels best. If you do your best work, and you do it consistently, your audience will grow.
