Newsweek Bidder Harman Says His Wife’s Political Career Poses No Threat

newsweek07162010.pngThe New York Post‘s Keith Kelly reports that The Washington Post Co. may announce that it’s found a buyer for Newsweek next week. The Post hung a “for sale” sign on the troubled magazine in early May.

Kelly also reached out to Newsweek suitor and electronics tycoon Sidney Harman, who said that his wife’s political career would have no impact on his stewardship of the magazine. “I don’t tell her how to vote and she doesn’t tell me how to run my business,” Harman said. Mattie Fein, a political opponent of Harman’s wife, Jane, recently wrote an open letter to Newsweek editor Jon Meacham alleging Jane Harman is an “ardent foe of freedom of the press.”
