Last night David Carr, New York Times media reporter and star of the documentary Page One: Inside the New York Timesstopped by The Colbert Report to chat. Before diving into his analysis of the U.K. phone-hacking scandal, Carr said that the Times is “doing better,” noting that the paper’s ads have stabilized, and that the company “paid back that Mexican billionaire early.” He also referenced the Times’ paywall, joking that after you read 20 articles online for free the company asks, “How’s about giving us some sugar here?” Colbert counters, “So the grey lady has turned into the painted harlot?” Carr doesn’t miss a beat in responding: “That’s part of the brand repositioning.”
