New York Leads National Magazine Award Nominees For Third Year

The American Society of Magazine Editors released its list of finalists for this year's National Magazine Awards—also known as the Ellies, after the Alexander Calder designed elephant-shaped statue given to winners. For the third year in a row, New York magazine led the pack of print and digital publications with an impressive nine nominations, including one for Magazine of the Year. The New York Times Magazine followed with seven nominations, GQ with six, The New Yorker with five and Bon Appétit with four. Matter, National Geographic and Poetry each received three nominations, while Vice and Vice News also had a combined three nods. In addition to New York, the titles nominated for Magazine of the Year included The Atlantic, The Hollywood Reporter (which also received a General Excellence nod), National Geographic, New York and The New Yorker. Twelve publications were first-time finalists this year, including BBC News Magazine, BuzzFeed News, Car and Driver, Eater, FamilyFun, The Huffington Post, The Huffington Post Highline, The Intercept, Lucky Peach, the Marshall Project, ProPublica and WSJ magazine. The awards ceremony—which also marks the Ellies' 50th anniversary—will take place on Monday, Feb. 1 in New York. Read on for a full list of the nominees.
