New Magazine Launches Decline in 2015

A 35 percent drop.

For zine fans, 2015 was a rough year. According to Crain’s New York, MediaFinder data revealed there was a 35 percent drop in new magazine launches over the past 12 months.

There were only 98 new magazines this year, compared to 148 new titles last year.

Proving that new magazines can be inspired by current events, titles dedicated to pot—like Cannabis Business Times and MG Magazine—made their mark on the year.

“Whenever there’s a new audience, print helps it coalesce,” explained Oxford Communications (parent of MediaFinder) president Trish Hagood.
