A Polish Kindle owner got tired of waiting for Amazon to add support his language so he decided to do it himself. He took his hacked Kindle and replaced one of the voices with a different language file from Nuance. He now has support for English and Polish text-to-speech on his Kindle.
If you kn0w anything about the Kindle then you probably know that Amazon added a feature to the K2 so the Kindle could read to you. Amazon didn’t develop the software; instead it licensed it from Nuance, a company that specializes in TTS.
It now looks like the language files can simply be replaced with a different set from Nuance. This is very good news; it means that language support is only a hacked Kindle away.
