NEED Magazine Set To Close In January

It looks like nothing short of a Christmas miracle will save NEED magazine, an independent quarterly that focuses on humanitarian efforts around the world.

Six months after launching its “Screw the Man” campaign in effort to save the magazine through reader subscriptions instead of corporate advertising, NEED is set to close up shop by the end of next month.

NEED‘s editor-in-chief Stephanie Kinnunen told FishbowlNY that while response to the campaign was good, “it was only a fraction of what was needed.”

“We were (and still are) hoping that a miracle would happen, but when we got an eviction notice from our landlord at our apartment, we knew that we had to do something to stay afloat personally,” Kinnunen said in an email to us today.
