Yesterday, the New York Post’s “Page Six” reported that David Gregory‘s tenure as host of NBC’s “Meet the Press” may soon be coming to an end.
The Daily Beast’s Lloyd Grove wrote in a follow-up piece that, “In multiple conversations that I had with people inside and outside NBC after the item appeared, it was taken as a given that Gregory is toast.”
Grove’s analysis differs dramatically compared to what an NBC spokesperson told “Page Six’s” Emily Smith Tuesday night, saying, “We heard the same false rumors and suggest you take them with a grain of salt, as we did.”
Both articles named NBC News’ chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd and MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski as top contenders to replace Gregory as host of the nation’s longest running television program.
Mike Allen also added to the mix in this morning’s “Playbook,” saying that ‘little birds’ suggested Andrea Mitchell, Savannah Guthrie, Cynthia McFadden, and Chris Jansing were mentioned as being considered.
Should a replacement be coming, it’s up to NBC executives to decide whether it be made before or after the November midterm elections.
