I’m writing with some very good news on the hiring front: We’ve just landed two major talents to join National Journal as editors.
Bob Moser will be joining us next week as senior editor for the magazine. Bob is a gifted editor who has produced a lot of really amazing narrative journalism – some of which he’s edited, some of which he’s written himself. Bob comes to us from the American Prospect, where he was the Executive Editor and led the magazine’s political and digital teams. He was previously the editor of The Texas Observer, a senior editor and writer for The Nation, a senior writer for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Report and the editor of The Independent Weekly, a National Magazine Award-winning alternative publication in North Carolina. He holds degrees from Elon University and UNC-Chapel Hill.
And Ben Pershing will be joining us next week as our new Washington editor, with broad responsibility for our coverage of Congress and the White House. Ben is a seasoned journalist with deep knowledge about how Washington works (and how it doesn’t). As a staff writer at The Washington Post, he covered Congress and campaigns and anchored the widely read Capitol Briefing blog. Prior to the Post, he spent a decade at Roll Call, working his way up from editorial assistant to staff writer to senior staff writer to deputy editor and senior editor. He graduated from UC-Berkeley, but I’ll try not to hold it against him.
Bob and Ben will have an immediate impact at National Journal – making our stories stronger and sharper, and providing much-needed support for Kristin, Richard and Andie, who have been working way too hard for way too long. Please join me – and them – in welcoming Bob and Ben when they arrive next week.
