National Enquirer and Star Shed Staff

Four reporters have already been downsized as National Enquirer and Star, both owned by American Media Inc. begin to consolidate their staffs. WWD’s Zeke Turner writes that left coast-based Star reporters Debbie Emery and Sandra Clark, the Enquirer’s Phil Kim, and one office assistant have already been let go.

American Media Inc. filed for bankruptcy last November, but the company insists that’s not the reason for these recent layoffs.

“It’s a case of us working smarter and cutting out duplication,” Enquirer editor-in-chief Tony Frost told WWD.
