Nancy Pelosi Recipient of Award from Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

EGPAF6-24-7116Last night at the Newseum, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi received the Congressional Global Champion Award for Longstanding Commitment to an AIDS-free Future from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF).

“There’s nothing like the determination of a mother,” said Pelosi. “When [Elizabeth Glaser] died we lost a champion, but her legacy lives on. She made a difference in the world. We are going to continue this fight until no child has AIDS.”

Pelosi has been an outspoken advocate for those infected with and affected by HIV since the beginning of the epidemic and her commitment has been critical in advancing the fight against the disease, seeing firsthand how research, public policies, and communities can act together to make real, lifesaving change.

WJLA anchor Alison Starling hosted the evening with a performance by percussive dance group Step Afrika.
