Sky Gamblers is an arcade style flight game set during World War I. In it, players pilot vintage military aircraft in dogfighting and bombing missions. 10 aircraft are available in all, including the Sopwith Biplane and Fokker DR1.
The game features a realistic flight model, with full yaw, pitch, and roll control, but forgoes the minutiae of full-blown flight simulators. In its 100 single-player missions, players go up against computer-controlled enemies in the air using machine guns, and take out ground targets with hand-dropped bombs. In addition to combat, players have to patrol, following checkpoints, and also land their planes.
Multiplayer supports up to eight participants over local wi-fi or online via Game Center. Game modes include deathmatch, team deathmatch, defend the base, and capture the flag. Game Center is also used for tracking achievements and global leaderboards.
Developer Revo Solutions is no stranger to the flight combat genre on iOS, having created top-selling titles on the App Store including F.A.S.T. and Skies of Glory. The Romanian company has been in business since 2005, when it began as a primary quality-assurance focused service provider. It expanded into games in 2008 and has released several titles across multiple genres for iOS and Android platforms, including five in its first year as a developer.
Sky Gamblers: Rise to Glory is a $4.99 universal title, compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The game features specific graphical optimizations for A5-based devices, namely iPhone 4S and iPad 2, including high dynamic range lighting. A lite version is also available on the App Store.
