After less than a year at the job, MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta is vacating that post, effective immediately, News Corp. said late Wednesday.
The news comes after reports of style differences between Van Natta and other top executives at the social networking site.
He will be replaced by newly elevated co-presidents Mike Jones and Jason Hirschhorn, who will report to Jon Miller, chairman and CEO of digital media for the conglomerate.
All three executives joined MySpace in April 2009.
Jones and Hirschhorn previously served as COO and chief product officer, respectively.
News Corp. seems committed to MySpace’s focus on helping people discover and come together around content — from music to video and beyond.
Miller, for example, lauded Van Natta for working to refocus and revitalize the venue. “The business has shown very positive signs recently as a result of his dedicated work,” he said. “However, in talking to Owen about his priorities both personally and professionally going forward, we both agreed that it was best for him to step down at this time.”
In a joint statement, Jones and Hirschhorn also said they would continue on the path they have set out on. “This business is now pointed in the right direction, and we have a great team of employees that will continue to push MySpace closer to its potential as the place where people go to be discovered and to discover great content,” they said.
Miller lauded the new MySpace top duo for their “leadership in their operational and product guidance, respectively.”
