Musicians Protest Outside Grammy Awards Over Ethnic Category Eliminations
Thirty-one categories were cut from the Grammy awards this year, mostly in Ethnic music fields, and the affected artists are fighting back. A petition to reinstate the axed categories, which include Latin jazz, Native American, Hawaiian, regional Mexican, Zydeco & Cajun music, has over six thousand signatures. Artists including Paul Simon and Carlos Santana have openly criticized the cuts. And then there was Sunday night’s protest. From Billboard:
