MTV Develops A Conscience

Last week footage from an MTV promo of ‘Jersey Shore’ featuring a female cast member getting punched in the face went viral. Seeing the petite but mouthy female get punched by a strange man easily twice her size was tremendously entertaining to some – and disturbing to the rest of us. Once MTV had milked all the publicity they could by featuring assault as entertainment, they did a little ass-covering and announced they were pulling the footage from the upcoming show. E! Online has their PR bullshit:

“What happened to Snooki was a crime and obviously extremely disturbing,” MTV said in a written statement. “After hearing from our viewers, further consulting with experts on the issue of violence, and seeing how the video footage has been taken out of context not to show the severity of this act or resulting consequences, MTV has decided not to air Snooki being physically punched in the face.”

So they’re not going to air it again. How enlightened.

Video after the jump. Did we mention it’s disturbing?
