MSG Network Tops the List with 2013 Emmy Nominations

It culminates with the Oscars later this month. But not so fast. The New York Emmy Awards announced its nominations today. MSG Network leads the pack with 67 nominations. WNBC has the most among over-the-air outlets with 58 nominations. There are dozens of award categories and here's a brief rundown... WCBS' Chris Wragge, a multiple winner, has been nominated for Best Evening Newscast (under 35 minutes). He was tapped for anchoring the East River helicopter crash in October, 2011. He also received three other nominations, including coverage of a sportscast/series for the Giants Road to Super Bowl 46. He is also a nominee for the prestigious Best Anchor. Among those joining Wragge in that category are WABC weekend morning anchor Phil Lipof, Tom Llamas of WNBC, and Sukanya Krishnan from WPIX. Veteran WNBC anchor Chuck Scarborough is in the running for the News Special category, hosting a 9/11 10th anniversary broadcast. Investigative reporter Arnold Diaz, winner of an astounding 44 Emmys, can add to his total with at least two nominations. WNBC photojournalist Michael DelGuidice has several more chances to increase his trophy case--now approaching 60. The nominees for weather anchor include; Amy Freeze and Bill Evans from WABC, and WCBS' Lonnie Quinn (last year's victor). In the sports anchor category, Al Trautwig (MSG), Bruce Beck (WNBC), and Bob Lorenz (YES Network). Trautwig is also nominated for host twice, along with Michael Kay on the YES Network. The sports play-by-play category features for popular announcers in Kay, Ian Eagle, Mike Breen, and Gary Cohen. In the reporter category, a pair from WNBC go against a duo from WCBS. Pei-Sze Chang and Andrew Siff from Channel 4 are nominated, as are Jeff Pegues and Matt Kozar on the list from Channel 7. For Best Live Reporter, Pegues is in a group with John Huddy and Antwan Lewis at WNYW, Dave Carlin at WCBS, and rising star Alice Gainer with News 12 New Jersey (now WCBS-TV). WPIX commentator Larry Mendte has at least three nominations. The 2013 New York Emmy Awards will be held April 14 at the Marriott Marquis. FishbowlNY is planning to attend the event for a third straight year.
