MSG Network Debuts Two Original Knick-Themed Shows

The lockdown has halted the NBA schedule until at least December, so MSG Network is attempting to pick up the slack.

MSG is debuting a pair of original programs focusing on the Knicks of yesteryear.

Knicks Greatest Rivalries will showcase the epic battles of the early 1990s between the Knicks and their biggest adversaries, including the Bulls, Celtics, Pacers and Heat. Hosted by Knicks radio play-by-play man Spero Dedes, the 20-part series will feature former Knicks Derek Harper and Anthony Mason, who played in some of the most memorable games in team history, as they share stories from each bitter matchup.

“All of these rivalries were crazy,” says Mason. “The buildings were rocking every night and there was trash talking like you’ve never heard.”

The series will include some of the most famous games in Knicks history, including Game 1 of the 1992 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals when the Knicks upset the champion Bulls in Chicago, Game 2 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals against the Bulls featuring “The Dunk” by John Starks at MSG, Game 5 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the Pacers featuring the Reggie Miller and Spike Lee confrontation, and Michael Jordan’s “Double Nickel” game in 1995.

First Person will showcase sports and entertainment legends as they break down a vintage performance in their own words, giving the audience a raw and unfiltered glimpse into what it was like to be in the middle of the action.

The first episode of the new series presents former Knicks All-Star Bernard King as he recounts his back-to-back 50-point games in 1984.

“Other than the playoff series against Detroit in ’84, the Dallas game was the best game I ever played,” says King, referring to the second game of his consecutive 50-point outings. “I ascended during that game. I went to an MVP level. After that game, I took the floor every night believing I was the best player in the NBA. I went to a whole other level.”
