Cox reports, "McCain not tough enough, some backers say" Lionel Barber writes, "Why journalism wins my vote" Reporters Without Borders announced, "Reporters Without Borders is asking for the judge to show clemency for journalist Jason Nicholas, independent photographer for the New York Post, currently in jail in Rikers Island, NY for parole violation. Jason Nicholas is scheduled for another parole hearing in front of an administrative judge on October 15th. He was one of over 40 journalists arrested while covering the Republican National Convention on September 1st. While most charges against other journalists in St-Paul have been dropped, Mr. Nicholas has not yet been cleared of obstruction to the legal process." The New York Post reports, "Ongoing fallout from the credit crisis could mean tough times ahead for media companies carrying heavy debt loads." The National reports, "The Abu Dhabi Government and some of the world's best-known media brands will today announce the creation of a new media zone, designed to nurture a world-class media industry run by and for Arabs. The zone, which combines training, production and business incubation facilities, will be named twofour54, after the geographic co-ordinates of the capital that will host it. Its primary goal will be to train and employ Arab media professionals in the film, broadcast, digital, publishing and music industries, while bolstering Abu Dhabi's role as a regional cultural centre, according to Tony Orsten, the chief executive of the zone."
