Elisabeth Hasselbeck Ditching The View for Fox & Friends (NY Post / Page Six)
Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving The View and joining Fox News’ morning show Fox & Friends as a co-host, Page Six has exclusively confirmed. After much speculation, conservative co-host Hasselbeck is following Barbara Walters and Joy Behar out of the ABC daytime talk show. She will join Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade on the Fox couch in mid-September. TVNewser Gretchen Carlson will move to a later, one-hour show, made possible by last week’s news that Megyn Kelly would be moving to primetime. “I have been a long-time fan of Fox & Friends and am excited to be joining their team as it is an honor to call the Fox News Channel my new television home,” Hasselbeck said in a statement. TheWrap Walters said that the soon-to-be-former coworkers of Hasselbeck — who first gained notoriety on the reality competition show Survivor — “wish her everything good.” HuffPost Hasselbeck, who has been the house conservative on The View for years, will move to a program whose political views coincide perfectly with her own — and whose less-than-highbrow approach to the news dovetails with her daytime experience. Moreover, she is a tested name and will bring her own version of star power to the show, and to the wider network. THR / The Live Feed Jenny McCarthy is in serious talks to join The View as a regular panelist when the show begins its 17th season this fall, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter. McCarthy, who last May finished a run fronting her own talk show on VH1, does not have a deal yet, but talks are ongoing.

It’s Official: Meredith Vieira Daytime Talk Show Moving Forward (TVNewser)
NBCUniversal will launch a new syndicated daytime talk show hosted by former Today co-anchor Meredith Vieira in the fall of 2014. The Meredith Vieira Show will originate from New York City, and will tape on a set designed to look like Vieira’s home, “complete with her actual furniture and family photos,” NBCU says. A pilot for the program was taped in May, and is said to have gone very well. Adweek Along with her hosting duties, Vieira also will serve as an executive producer. Vieira said that her new show will draw on the skills she’s amassed over the course of her 38-year media career, while serving “this fundamental need we have to connect with and find inspiration in each other.”
 NYT NBC’s syndication division did not say whether it had completed any deals with local television stations. But executives involved with the production of The Meredith Vieira Show expressed confidence that stations, including the 10 owned by NBC in big cities, would snap up the rights to the show in short order. Ad Age / Media News Several household names have tried their luck with talk shows recently but only proved the difficulty of the terrain. Anderson Cooper’s show was canceled after its second season, while shows from Ricki Lake, Marie Osmond and Jeff Probst didn’t make it out of their first seasons.

Maxim Magazine Said to Fetch Bids of About $20 Million (Bloomberg)
Maxim magazine, the bawdy men’s title that went up for sale in March, is seeing some bids of about $20 million, less than a 10th of the price its owners paid six years ago, according to people familiar with the situation. Maxim publisher Alpha Media Group Inc., controlled by creditor Cerberus Capital Management LP, is expected to lose between $3 million and $5 million this year, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the matter is confidential.

Tribune to Spin Off LA Times, Other Papers Into Separate Company (LA Times)
Tribune Co. announced plans Wednesday to spin off its beleaguered newspaper unit into a separate company, freeing the media conglomerate to focus on its more promising television and Internet properties. The new entity, to be called Tribune Publishing Co., would include the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and six other daily papers. All other assets, including the company’s real estate holdings and stakes in several Internet sites, would remain part of Tribune Co.

Roland Martin to Host TV One News Show

News One Now will be TV One‘s first morning news program, a one-hour live weekday telecast that is set to launch in September. TV One said Tuesday that former CNN commentator, columnist and previous TV One host Roland Martin will anchor the show, which will focus on African-American news and current affairs and be culled from the third hour of a three-hour radio show to be syndicated on Radio One network stations. FishbowlDC Martin says the program will serve as a nexus of black thought: “When you talk about what’s happening politically, socially, culturally in our communities, this is the place where people will be able to have those discussions.”

Rupert Murdoch has been asked to appear before a British parliamentary committee for the second time in three years, just as London police are looking into an explosive secret recording showing the News Corp chair angrily denouncing the investigation into his company. The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee announced Tuesday that it had voted to ask Murdoch to face new questions about his media company’s phone hacking and corruption scandal.

Newsroom Diversity: A Casualty of Journalism’s Financial Crisis

The American Society of News Editors (ASNE) recently released its annual study of newsroom diversity. The results only confirmed what many who have lived through the industry’s deep recession have already experienced: a steady decline in minority journalists and stagnation in prior progress. Despite claims by news organizations that they value and promote diversity, the numbers in this year’s study show 90 percent of newsroom supervisors from participating news organizations were white.

It will be the first time a public radio station with a staff of journalists has combined its operations with another daily-news producing outlet. This is not an easy thing to do.

She came aboard after eight years at The Atlantic to run Forbes Life, a luxury and women’s magazine.
