More People Reading Less News Online, Watching Even Less on Networks

project_iris.jpgAccording to Nielsen Online more people are reading newspapers online but, on average compared to a year ago, they are spending less time doing so. With some exceptions, namely the New York Times and Politico, both of which clocked a significant increases: The New York Times was up to an average of 40 minutes versus 35 minutes and Politico went from 9 minutes in October 2007 to almost 19 minutes in October 2008.

Network newscasts, however, have not fared so well. Despite the most riveting presidential election in recent memory network newscast viewership dropped down 280,000 viewers since Sept. 22 compared with the same period last year.
