More Nonprofits, Small Businesses Planning To Hire
The job outlook may be bleak, but at least some companies are looking to beef up staff: almost a quarter of nonprofits and small (under 100 employees) companies plan to hire in the second quarter of 2009, according to the Labor Market Outlook survey by the Society for Human Resource Management.
SHRM surveyed HR professionals in a variety of industries and locations for the LMO survey. Other highlights:
70 percent of HR professionals are pessimistic about job growth in Q2 2009, though respondents in the Southeast were the most optimistic, with a whopping 3 percent of respondents replying they were “very optimistic that there will be job growth.”
A total of 84 percent of respondents either cut jobs or maintained staffing levels, an 8 percent increase from Q4 2008.
