Mobile Sales up 55% on Cyber Monday

Mobile sales increased by more than 55 percent on Cyber Monday when overall online sales broke new records, according to an IBM report.

Mobile made up about 17 percent of online sales this Cyber Monday. Mobile traffic also improved by 45 percent over last year. Tablets drove double the number of sales as smartphones, while users deployed their phones more often while browsing.

“The mobile device has become the shopping companion of choice for consumers,” said Jay Henderson, strategy director, IBM Smarter Commerce, in a statement.

Total online sales for the annual online extravaganza that occurs the Monday following Thanksgiving jumped by nearly 21 percent over 2012 making it the biggest Cyber Monday yet.
