Digital publishing company Mindshapes, a company that specializes in building apps for kids, has secured $5 million of series A investment.
Mindshapes has created digital experiences for Hachette Children’s Books, Little Tiger Press and Oxford University Press among others. One recent app that the company built was Casper Scare School – Costume Closet, a Halloween-themed kids book app.
The new investment comes from the company’s founders, as well as angel investors. The company plans to spend the money building out its two new products. The first being, Magic Town, an interactive storytelling platform that is both app and browser based, where kids can interact with book characters. Mindshapes has recently signed deals to bring characters including Elmer, Winnie the Witch and Little Princess to this series. The second is called Language City, which is a beta version virtual world for kids to learn languages.
