Microsoft Bashes Google’s Privacy Scruples With ‘Gmail Man’ Video

A new video from Microsoft that takes a jab at Google’s scruples in regards to privacy is going viral today.

A new video from Microsoft that takes a jab at Google’s scruples in regards to privacy is going viral today.  The video, which was apparently screened at the annual Microsoft Global Exchange sales conference earlier this month, features the one and only Gmail Man—a virtual mailman that reads all of your mail looking for words and phrases for ad targeting.  Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn’t it?

Gmail Man even has his own jingle: “He’s everywhere and nowhere at the same time.  He peeks at every subject in un-real time.  Probing every sentence and all your punctuation.  Got his nose in every colon and every situation.”  They end the video with, “Your email is your business.  Google makes it theirs.”  The solution?  Microsoft Office 365, of course!

Microsoft isn’t the only fighter in this battle, however.  Earlier this month Google also launched a campaign against all other email services that aren’t Gmail.  The campaign, called Email Intervention, invites Gmailers to help improve the lives of their friends by getting them to switch to Gmail.  They don’t list other email services by name, as the Microsoft spot does, but of course other email services like AOL and Microsoft’s Hotmail are implied.

What’s your take on the battle of the emails?  Which email service are you currently using and do either of these campaigns compel you to switch over?  Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
