The Atlantic snags BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins, who will be joining the publication as a staff writer, writing for the politics and policy team. He’ll start in early 2017, with the exact date yet to be announced.
“McKay’s an incisive journalist who’ll be a big help to Yoni [Appelbaum] and his team, as we build on the phenomenal reporting of Molly Ball and others among us in trying to meet the complex challenges of covering U.S. politics and policy in a strange new era,” wrote TheAtlantic.com editor J.J. Gould in a note to staff. “He’s also a very nice dude, and I know he’s looking forward to meeting and working with all of you.”
Coppins has been a senior writer for BuzzFeed News’ politics team. Prior to joining BuzzFeed in 2012, he had been a reporter for Newsweek and The Daily Beast. He is the author of The Wilderness, a look at the GOP’s effort to regroup following the 2012 elections. Also, President-elect Donald Trump may or may not be his fault.
