Meet the Honorable Anne Hidalgo.
She’s the Mayor of Paris…as in, France. Like a few Americans, she isn’t entirely fond of FOX News. In fact, she shared with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that [she] “will have to sue FOX News.” She believes Paris’ honor was “insulted” and “prejudiced” because of how FOX News reported on the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
FOX News pundits offered views on how France and other parts of Europe are pockmarked with “no-go zones” for non-Muslims. To reward that unfettered reporting, Paris will welcome an attorney to help litigate stateside.
So, what’s the big deal?
Shariah, according to the Qu’ran, is interpreted as “The Path to Follow,” but Mayor Hidalgo wants the world to know that such a path does not exist in Paris.
“When we’re insulted, and when we’ve had an image, then I think we’ll have to sue, I think we’ll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed,. The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced. And I think in the great discussion of truth everyone is to play its role. And we’re going to have to be realistic and put things as they are.”
Of the more than 6,200 verses in the Qu’ran, only 80 deal with “law” — so Shariah remains a topic ripe for interpretation by pundits with a bone to pick. FOX News apparently didn’t have an intern do the research.
While this news smacks the network, its executive team believes there is no place for the lawsuit:
“We empathize with the citizens of France as they go through a healing process and return to everyday life,” Fox executive vice president Michael Clemente told CNN Money in a statement. “However, we find the mayor’s comments regarding a lawsuit misplaced.”
Sure, the statement pokes a little fun at the lawsuit. Regardless, someone at FOX News believed there was ample reason for apologies following those reports. And the fact that FOX is being sued by someone who really is a Socialist is somehow appropriate.
