Marv Albert Joins CBS Sports Football Coverage

Marv Albert is heading to CBS Sports, the network announced today, to do play-by-play TV football coverage for the first time in more than a decade. Albert did football play-by-play for NBC for 19 years, until 1997, when he was unceremoniously dropped, as most news reports seem to be forgetting, after being convicted of assault for biting his then-girlfriend. He’s since stuck mostly to calling basketball games, but has worked Monday Night Football on the radio for Westwood One.

The NFL spot opened up at CBS after longtime announcer Gus Johnson decided to join Fox.
