<i>Martha Stewart Weddings</i> Editor Vanessa Holden Promoted To Top Spot At Flagship Mag

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) has reached from within its ranks to fill the top slot at its flagship magazine, Martha Stewart Living. On Friday, the company announced that Vanessa Holden, the editor-in-chief of Martha Stewart Weddings, had been promoted to the same position at Living. Katie Hatch, Weddings' style director, will replace Holden at the bridal title. Meanwhile, Gael Towey, who was working as acting editor of Living was named editorial director at MSLO. Towey MSLO's former chief creative officer, stepped into the role in February when Michael Boodro left the company. Holden joined MSLO as Weddings' editor-in-chief in August 2008 from her own consulting business. She previously worked as creative director at Real Simple magazine and co-founded food and lifestyle magazine Donna Hay. She has also worked at the Australian versions of Marie Claire and Marie Claire Lifestyle as well as Vogue Entertaining and Travel and Vogue Living. New Weddings editor Hatch is a former lawyer and freelancer who has worked at Living and the now-defunct MSLO title Blueprint. She was named associate style editor at Weddings in 2000. Vanessa Holden, previously Editor in Chief of Martha Stewart Weddings, is promoted to Editor in Chief of Martha Stewart Living. Katie Hatch, formerly Style Director of Martha Stewart Weddings, is named Editor in Chief of that magazine. Both Ms. Holden and Ms. Hatch will report to Gael Towey, who has been named MSLO's Editorial Director, working closely with the editors of all MSLO's magazines and building their identity across the company's media platforms, including new digital initiatives. She also will collaborate with MSLO's sales and marketing teams to develop programs that tap MSLO's editorial content and reflect its iconic style. A creative leader with a rich background in magazine and book publishing, Ms. Holden joined MSLO in August 2008 as Editor in Chief of Martha Stewart Weddings, an award-winning, quarterly bridal magazine that is the leading magazine in its category on newsstands and the cornerstone of MSLO's growing Weddings franchise. Since joining the company, Ms. Holden has spearheaded the successful evolution of Weddings' magazine. She has also collaborated closely with MSLO's cross-platform teams to further build the magazine's presence in the weddings space with innovative new offerings like pop-up events, the launch issue of Martha Stewart Destination Weddings and Dream Honeymoons and the recent online luxury weddings expo. The magazine is currently celebrating its fifteenth anniversary. Prior to joining MSLO, Ms. Holden had her own consulting business. Before that, she served as Creative Director of Real Simple magazine and co-founded Donna Hay magazine, an award-winning food and lifestyle publication. Ms. Holden previously worked at Marie Claire (Australia) and Marie Claire Lifestyle (Australia) and served as an art director and designer for Vogue Entertaining and Travel and Vogue Living. In her recent role as Weddings' Style Director, she worked closely with Ms. Holden on evolving the magazine's style and content offerings. Prior to joining MSLO, Ms. Hatch practiced law.
