There’s a good reason to pop onto the Facebook page for Macy’s department store in advance of Mother’s Day: Doing so could save users a wad of cash at the card store. It can also help them reach their do-good-for-others quotas for the day.
That’s because through the “Thank-a-Mom Movement” campaign just announced by the 150-year-old shopping mecca, Facebook users can send personalized cards of appreciation to the moms in their lives — free of charge and for a good cause.
For each e-card that is sent through Facebook, Macy’s will donate $3 (up to a grand total of $400,000) to whichever of the five mom-approved charities users select — the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women, Futures Without Violence, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the National Park Foundation, and Reading Is Fundamental.
Some 64,000 Facebook users are already talking about this on the social network.

It will be interesting to see if this promotion spikes Macy’s current like total, which is nearing 5.5 million.
The campaign runs through Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13.
