The Washington Post made the following announcement yesterday:
Opening for a Montgomery Education Reporter
Starting next month, Lori Aratani will take on a new assignment to enhance our coverage of Montgomery County. Building upon her experience and contacts on the education beat, Lori will be a general assignment reporter concentrating on social services and youth culture in the county. These are subjects that Montgomery readers have told us are of high interest and yet, they are too infrequently covered. Lori brings a wealth of enthusiasm and ideas to her new role.
Lori’s move creates an opening for an aggressive, analytical beat reporter to cover Montgomery education. This is a demanding, high-profile assignment. The county’s school system, while still regarded as one of the nation’s best, is confronting profound challenges driven by demographic change. We’re seeking a reporter with a proven track record of staying abreast of breaking news and trends, and with a knack for getting inside classrooms where the true success or failure of education is revealed. A background in education reporting and Spanish language skills are helpful, but not required.
