LinkedIn Launched a Lightweight Android App in India to Connect More Users

The size of LinkedIn Lite is just 1 MB, and data usage is 80 percent lower than the flagship LinkedIn app

LinkedIn just opened up access to its professional network to many more potential users in India with its launch of lightweight Android application LinkedIn Lite.

The size of the app is just 1 megabyte, and data usage is 80 percent lower than the flagship LinkedIn app, enabling users in India with lower-end Android devices and poorer connectivity to access key LinkedIn features including news feed, jobs, profile, network, messaging, notifications and search.

LinkedIn launched a LinkedIn Lite lightweight mobile website in India last September.

The professional network said it plans to roll out the lightweight mobile website and LinkedIn Lite app in more than 60 countries shortly.

Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn’s country manager for India, said in a release announcing the launch of the LinkedIn Lite app that the company hoped to “democratize access to economic opportunity” by enabling more users to access its network.
