LinkedIn Adds to Sales Team

McCann, EA, and Microsoft Execs Join in Advance of IPO

LinkedIn has added three new hires from McCann, Electronic Arts and Microsoft to its Marketing Solutions sales team, according to an internal memo circulated this afternoon at the company.

The social network site hired Emily Ketchen, previously at McCann Worldgroup San Francisco, to fill a new position responsible for relationships with advertising and marketing agencies.

LinkedIn also hired Joshua Graff as its sales director for Europe, Middle East, & Africa; previously Graff was head of Media Sales and Business Development for the same region, plus Asia and the Pacific, at Electronics Arts.

The final hire announced is Alison Engel, previously Marketing Director for Microsoft’s advertising business, who LinkedIn added as director of field marketing.

LinkedIn is in the process of going public; yesterday the company updated its S-1 to show that it will list itself on NYSE. The updated filing also showed that LinkedIn’s Marketing Solutions group, which comprises around 33% of the company’s revenues, saw revenue growth of 94% in the first quarter of this year.

Marketing Solutions is LinkedIn’s display and text ad business. In the memo, LinkedIn Senior Vice President of Global Sales Mike Gamson called Marketing Solutions one of LinkedIn’s “primary drivers of revenue growth.” LinkedIn’s other segments include Hiring Solutions, a job board and job candidate service for for recruiters, which made up 42% of the company’s business in the first quarter. Premium Subscriptions gives users access to more functionality on the site; that segment made up 25% of revenues in Q1.

LinkedIn will be the first US social networking site to take itself public. If the success of Chinese social network RenRen’s IPO on NYSE is any indication, public market investors are desperate to get a piece of social network stock: Yesterday that company, which is operating at a loss, raised $743 million in its public market debut. Shares shot up nearly 40% in first day trading.
