Editors! Cut Your Own Life In A Day Trailer On YouTube

Life In A Day makes its formal debut on July 24, 2011, but in the meantime fans are invited to cut their own trailer remix on YouTube, in anticipation of the film’s release.

Kevin Macdonald and Ridley Scott’s ‘Life In A Day’ is arguably one of the most beautiful and moving projects to ever hit YouTube.  Last July 24, 2010, YouTubers the world over were invited to create a video of their lives on that day and submit it for an epic documentary, showcasing the lives of individuals all over the world.  The final film, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, makes its formal debut on July 24, 2011, but in the meantime fans are invited to cut their own Life In A Day trailer on YouTube, in anticipation of the film’s release.

Before we get to the details about the trailer remixing, you must see the ‘Life In A Day’ official trailer, if you have not seen it already.  Check it out below and then continue reading to find out how you can create your own version, which could be showcased on the Life In A Day YouTube channel.

According to the YouTube blog, “you can edit and publish your own trailer to share with your friends and the world” on the Remixer page, a page powered by the YouTube Video Editor that provides users with video clips and music from the film.  You can rearrange, mix up and cut together the media to create your own, original version of the trailer.  If you need help navigating the video editor, check out our guide.

In the video below, editor Joe Walker, who cut together 4,500 hours of footage from around the world to create ‘Life In A Day’, introduces the Life In  A Day trailer remix tool.  He says that the very best remixes will be featured on YouTube.com/LifeInADay.

This is a pretty unique and innovative way to promote a film, and it meshes perfectly with the concept behind ‘Life In A Day’.  At the Sundance premiere, the creators spoke about how the huge quantity of video that was submitted to the film, from all different parts of the world and walks of life, could have been cut into a plethora of different films, all with different messages.  Different editors could have had entirely different takes.  It will be interesting to see the different ways in which editors interpret the provided footage to create their own trailers of the film.

Will you try your hand at remixing the ‘Life In A Day’ Trailer?
