Laura Ling Investigates Gruesome 2005 Teen Murder

[kickout id="1"] There was a bit of a gap between the second and third episodes of Laura Ling's E! Investigates series, but last Wednesday, the reporter debuted her newest installment, “Fatal Teen Triangle." The show repeats tonight at 6 p.m. and Friday July 1st at 1:00 p.m. Although the crime at the center of the episode is six years old, Ling's report is part of a wave of renewed coverage of the horrific murder and disposal in January 2005 of 16-year-old American Idol hopeful Adrianne Reynolds (pictured). The Moline, Illinois teen was done in by a jealous girlfriend, Sarah Kolb, and male accomplice Cory Gregory. Coming later this summer will be an August book (Too Young to Kill) and September Oxygen documentary (Snapped) about the crime. A similar program aired last December on the Investigation Discovery channel, but Ling's report is the first to feature an interview with Sean McKittrick, a friend of the teenage group who was a witness to the earliest portion of the tragic January 21st events. By coincidence, last week was also when South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo published the explosive claim that the now-deposed head of North Korea's intelligence agency was directly responsible for the bribing of the guide that led Ling and Current TV colleagues Euna Lee and Mitchell Koss to the border hotspot where the two women were seized in March 2009. FishbowlLA contacted Ling to get her reaction to the unattributed report. "Though I'd always known there was a possibility that we were set up by our guide, I was shocked to learn that our capture may have been orchestrated by someone as high up as the deputy director of North Korea's State Security Department," Ling replied via email.
